Superposition Gallery Benefit in East Hampton

On August 29th in Sag Harbor Storm Ascher, Michael A. Butler, Dr. Georgette Grier-Key, and artists featured in Superposition Gallery's third-year anniversary and benefit art sale joined me in conversation for an artist talk on the historic neighborhood of Eastville as we discussed each panel artist’s work and practice.
▪️
The historic neighborhood of Eastville, Sag Harbor is an African-American enclave community that's continued to thrive in the Hampton’s since the early 19th century. The Eastville Historical Society preserves the history of African American, Native American and Immigrant communities in the area.

Thank you to Storm Ascher, Superposition Gallery, all the participating artists in the benefit, and the folks over at the Eastville Historical Society for the opportunity to engage in this incredibly important conversation on the Black American experience, including the ways in which African-American communities have continued to engage in art and activism.

RetroAfrica “Do This In Memory Of Us”

On August 17th in New York City at Lehmann Maupin gallery in conversation with the founder of @retroafrica Dolly Kola @dollykola, Nate Lewis @nloois, and Victor Ehikhamenor @victorsozaboy I hosted an artist talk on Dolly’s gallery takeover and first US exhibition.
▪️
We discussed elements of each artist’s work and practice and the ways in which Dolly Kola is bringing contemporary African art from the continent to the US and beyond. We uncovered unique insights and themes explored in each artist’s work and its social context.
